Functions – Conservation of Energy

The Government of Nagaland has designated the Electrical Inspectorate as the Designated Agency to coordinate, regulate and enforce the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act 2001 in the state. The mission of the Nagaland State Designated Agency (NSDA) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is to develop policies and strategies with a thrust on self-regulation and market principles, within the overall framework of the Energy Conservation Act 2001 with the primary objective of reducing energy intensity of the Indian Economy.

The functions and objectives of the NSDA are:

  1. Specify and notify Energy Conservation Codes with respect to the use of energy in buildings,
  2. To promote awareness in respect of Energy Conservation Act, Energy Efficiency, standards, best practices etc.
  3. To reduce energy consumption in domestic sector by way of educating the users, and
  4. Arrange and organize training of personnel and specialize in the techniques for efficient use of energy and its conservation.
  5. The NSDA administers the State Energy Conservation Fund with contribution from BEE (Govt. of India) and the State Govt. to implement energy efficiency projects in the Government Sectors

 

Some of the achievements and activities of the NSDA are shown below:

  • Promotion of Energy Conservation through advertisements, pamphlets, posters, hoardings etc.
  • Translation of pamphlets/slogans to local dialects on Energy Conservation.
  • Demonstration Projects on Space Heating, LED Bulbs and Street Lighting.
  • Has successfully taken up “Green Village Initiative” Program in Nagaland
